Introduction
P
RO-CON with an annual turnover exceeding R200 million per annum, is effectively a logistics marketing organisation and its corporate business is to provide logistic solutions to targeted customers in sub-Saharan Africa. As a subsidiary of Imperial Transport Holdings, PRO-CON is the selected company within the group to represent its cross border business interests. It follows that PRO-CON’s marketing and operational needs and infrastructure has to reflect that intent. The total revenue is achieved through income generated from exports and imports from, to or via South Africa and within sub-Saharan Africa.

Focus.
The sub-Saharan economies consist of industries which range from manufacturers of primary products to high-tech electronic components and speciality chemicals, as well as producers and traders in ores grains, foodstuffs and so on.
Logistics related to exports and imports are strategic for some and opportunistic for others. Our mission is to pursue the opportunities that lie in those industries where exports or imports are key to their business strategy.

Skills and Knowledge
PRO-CON has, over the past three decades, acquired knowledge and understanding of the business climates in which we operate. This includes an understanding of all the complexities of the socio- economic environment, the statutory needs and the specific business detail of the various industries in those territories.

Business Structure
The structure reflects how we achieve that knowledge and skill and convert it into providing profitable logistics support. With three strategic business units, we have a stated mission to understand and convert into profit the opportunities within the following sectors of international business:

  1. Agricultural products, fuels and lubricants.
  2. Chemicals, plastics, paper packaging and their raw materials.
  3. Engineering products and metals.

International offices
PRO-CON has agencies and facilities in Johannesburg, Durban, and Musina, Beitbridge, Harare, Mutare, Bulawayo and Maputo. It has also established a subsidiary office in Lusaka, Zambia.

Consolidation and groupage warehousing is active in Johannesburg, Durban, Harare and Bulawayo and is a core element of
PRO-CON’s business.
This is all combined together with a web-enabled satellite tracking system “Opsys” which enables selected clients to track their consignments from loading point to final destination. The Sappi Group is linked to Opsys and may track their loads through this system.
The company adheres to the relevant Hazchem transport and handling requirements.

  2. Specific technical and operational knowledge of running and maintaining a large trucking enterprise in those countries.
  3. Marketing expertise as well as operational support to ensure that the needs and wants of importers and exporters in the territories are recognized, quantified and reasonably met.
  4. Specific knowledge of its clients’ products for their safe and effective handling of such products.
